Early Music Workshops at Brandeis a success!

Aston Magna period instrument workshops at Brandeis University

Brandeis University is hosting two intensive Aston Magna workshops for instrumentalists this summer:

Bach’s works for unaccompanied violin (June 13-18, 2010)

Mozart’s Winds I: the classical oboe and clarinet (June 20-25)

Aston Magna’s Artistic Director, violinist Daniel Stepner, will offer the Bach workshop to both modern and baroque violinists. Stephen Hammer and Eric Hoeprich will give the workshops in oboe and clarinet. All three are regulars at the Aston Magna Festival, principals in the Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra, and have played period instruments for more than three decades.

The workshop will involve private coachings, master classes, lecture-demonstrations and small ensemble work. They will culminate in an informal performance given by the students. The workshops run parallel to two of Aston Magna’s summer season concerts, also to be given at Brandeis University: on June 17, Daniel Stepner will perform the three Partitas of J. S. Bach, and on June 24, Mssrs. Hammer and Hoeprich will perform ensemble works by Mozart (the oboe quartet, the clarinet quintet, and a new completion by Robert Levin of a clarinet quintet movement). For details, please see the Brandeis website.
